    Hiking the Porkies w/ my Pitbull Yogi (pics)

    We left my car at 1:10, hiked 12 miles in 7 hours, 47lb. pack (that needs to change!). Yogi couldn't wait to get in the hammock. Spent a night then hiked a couple miles back to the car, I had stuff to get done. Nice having the Porcupine Mtns. in the UP of Michigan only 15 miles from home! Yogi is around 53 lbs. and still bulking up, he sleeps very well in the hammock.

    Looks like a nice trip. I like your view from the hammock! My dog Buddy doesn't like to get in the hammock unless it's cold weather.
    Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

    Awesome pics. I have a similarly sized pit I've been wanting to try to hang with, but been worried about his nails damaging my hammock. Have you noticed snags/punctures being an issue?
    When thro' the woods and forest glades I wander
    And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
    When I look down from lofty mountain gardeur,
    And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze...

    Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing - got a big ole crippled lab who loves camping out, but I haven't allowed her in the hammock because of the same concern.

    Hey! My sister used to live in Coon Rapids! Up until last night I was using a military dummy bag like a regular sleeping bag, with the reflectix between the double layers of the hammock. For this trip I took my Lafuma bag that both of us can't fit in, put the reflectix on top of the hammock so Yogi's nails will not touch the hammock, then used the sleeping bag like a top quilt. So, his nails haven't directly stepped on the hammock. Sometimes he sleeps on me, sometimes he sleeps next to me, but he never really moves around much. Letting him sleep on the ground under me wouldn't be an option, he HAS to sleep next to me. Big baby.

    Sorry for the late response, kinda forgot I posted on this thread... that's some good advice, there's no way I get my little wuss bag to sleep on the ground. They're such babies... Gonna have to give it a try

    Great pictures and a great view. My dog prefers to sleep in the wifes hammock not mine.

    Beautiful pit. My Border Collie comes on hikes with me sometimes but she sleeps under the hammock, her choice. I love pits, they are such big babies and so gentle.
