VIDEO: Hammock Winter Wonder-Unders with Shug

Whooo Buddy and Howdy Happy Hammockers All...
As winter has progressed I have been messing around with getting away from using pads in my hammock. I have always used them in deep winter here in Minnesota but as of late I have trying just bottom insulation on the outside of my hammocks. Way more comfortable and do-able in 0º and below. I still carry a thin CCF pad as back-up but may do away with that.
Here I show the "Full Winter" layering system. With ThermaDrape Vapor Barrior Under Quilt, Full down Under Quilt, 1/2 Down Under Quilt and the DriDucks Poncho/Weather Shield Modification. The beauty of this system is you can add or subtract parts to suit your style.
Still learning and experimenting and having a big ol' time figuring out the perfect combo.
Also have some "Cocoa Time" and other bits of weirdness.....
A "goodnight" song and an after-action morning report.

    Great Report

Shug, as always you did a wonderful job on the details of you report.

Any clue what the setup that you had configured come in at weight wise? I know it is a lot of equipment there to keep a body warm at lower temperatures but I was just curious.

    Hey CrowofStorm,
My 1/2 UQ is 10ozs, full UQ 28ozs, DriDucks ... guessing 8 ozs, ThermaDrape UQ with ripstop ... not sure .. haven't weighed it but a rough guess would be around 12 to 14oz. That all is around 3 1/2 lbs.
Normally I have carried my BA insulated pad .. over a pound and an SPE and a full ccf pad along with the full UQ.
My idea is to use my winter Yeti, when it comes, 22 oz, my 1/2 UQ 10 oz and DriDucks poncho. No pads , well a sit pad. That should get the weight down.
I was just testing the waters on all this and it was SUPER WARM!

Always fun to watch, Shug. Thanks for posting!

Looks like you've got QUITE a few layers there. Which ones do you think you'll weed out, since you got so much condensation? I really like your 1/2 underquilt too. I'll have to make something like that soon, but I worry about my feet getting cold.

    Hey Shug,

The pillow idea makes perfect sense. Of course!! Worth the price of admission.

Well ....I slept out last night without the ThermaDrape layer. It got down to 0º and I had way less moisture condensation but WAS NOT AS WARM.
I think it is a balancing act ... do I want all that warmth and moisture and eventually a soggy down bag or less warmth and drier bag.
I am going to try and turn the ThermDrape layer inside out and try it some more. It really was warm.
