    max,
We need pics. It may help with any design changes you need. If you can recruit a friend or family member to show how your uq fits while the hammock is occupied, it may lead to answers.

If the head and foot ends dont seal snug, you'll never trap the heat.

Sv: Frozen butt syndrom while using DIY UQ

Thank you all for the great response!

I tried using my UQ as i took a nap last afternoon and i got the same warmth as i do with my duvet so i guess it works....

I'll try to give it a shot outside this evening and replace the shockcord that runs on the end to triy to get it even tighter over my shoulders and staying that way.

One thing i also will try is to put the UQ higher up on my hammock, so that my head is well inside the Quilt.

Maybe i can bribe my 9 year old to act as a cameraman.

Once again thank you all, i wont give up

Sv: Frozen butt syndrom while using DIY UQ

So i took the plunge and spent the money on a down Under Quilt.
Figured i was going to sooner or later because of the lower weight and pack size, so why wait, right?
So now i have a all to long wait ahead of me before it arrives....:banghead:

Once again thank you all for the support and willingness to help a noob!

Sv: Frozen butt syndrom while using DIY UQ

    Hi HF!

I'm happy to report that i solved my problems, in fact i'm writing this tucked in and all cozy in my hammock settled down for the night.

The solution i spelled UKhammocks, i orderd a down UQ and it's working like a charm.

Thanks to all of you that was eager to assist!

Well, it's lights out for me and time to sleep

When i get home i'm gonna DIY myself a better mosquito net to replace my DD hammock netting and attach corner suspension tieouts.
I was wondering exactly what you meant by channel suspension. Does this channel run all the way around the quilt, in what some call a perimeter suspension? These are very popular and very handy, but I think they also have some drawbacks that must be dealt with.

There are lots of threads here for either DIY or very high quality brand UQs that are titled something like this: "I was cold at 40 in my 20F UQ, what am I doing wrong". But unless I have just missed it, I don't think I have ever seen one of these threads for JRB dif cut UQs( or for a PeaPod). I don't think there are huge differences in the other brands UQs, but the suspensions are different.

Since I also use a perimeter suspension UQ, I have noticed a tendency for the UQ to bunch up in the center, with each end moving slightly towards the center, becoming very slightly shorter. This can lead to a tiny gap, and tiny is all it takes. Any time I adjust this UQ from head to foot or vice versa, I also try to make sure the UQ is stretched out as lengthy as possible. Sometimes I have to pull it by hand.

A JRB MW type suspension pulls the foot end of the UQ towards the foot end of the hammock and vice versa for the head end. I suspect this tends to keep the UQ at maximum length, which I think is beneficial. It makes it harder for the UQ to bunch up in the middle. Which seems to be what you are describing above?

Just another thing to check for. If this is happening, you might have to make some mods to prevent it.

EDIT: Never mind! I see you have bought an UQ and it is working for you!
