    Have down, need project.

I posted this over in the DIY section the other day and haven't gotten anything. So, now I'm trying here.

Well, I took someone's advise and have been on the lookout for My Luxe down stuff on eBay. Well, with some patience I've managed to acquire 140oz of 800 fill down for an average of $2.27/oz. Now I just need to do something with it. My thought is to make 40*, 20* and 0* top and under quilts for my wife and I. Is that close a range overkill?

So, the questions are what is your favorite pattern and do you use the same one for all temp ratings? 3/4 or full length for 0* and 20* UQ? What is your favorite material to use and why?

At some point I'm considering making hats and pillow if we still have down. So, if you have any favorite patterns along those lines please chime in.

I'd be inclined to make 40 and 10 degree quilts... but that's just me.

I don't have a pattern, but there are LOTS of posts on this in the DIY section.

As far as a pillow, I've made several different sizes. I'd "mock" one up by folding a small towel or fleece jacket and see what you want...

    Nice

140oz!! That's a lot of down. The My Luxe stuff isn't bad either. Seems like it's pretty close to the advertised 800fp.

Here is my favorite pattern for a sewn through(40deg) top quilt pattern. Good pics and pretty straight forward.

Thanks John. 40* and 10* bags make a little more sense.

Violet Green, I had seen that pattern while looking around. I'll have to keep it in mind as a possibility.

gnar, once I'm done with Grad school and back in the Northwoods I might have to make something like that. Unfortunately I don't have the justification for it at the moment.

Any thoughts on material? For this down is something like M90 worth the extra money for weight savings since I don't have 900+ fill? Or is there some other sort of advantage of that or something else over a 1.1oz nylon?

    RE: Have Down, Need Project...

I just had an epiphany on a very simple project for you that could easily be done even with your grad school schedule...

Just send me about 16 ozs. of the down!

See, I told you it was simple!

That would be, but I'm not sure it would ever find its way back to me... Plus after Monday morning I have a month of to do all the stuff I haven't had time to for the last year.
