Video: Another overnight hang in the Sierras

I went out once again to the Lake Spaulding area last weekend. In this video I tried to spend more time showing you the trail and the area rather than telling you about it. I was also able to use past videos to compare this year to previous years and previous trips.

I found a trail I've been looking for and it turned out to lead to a monstrously steep hill. After checking the topo map I saw that the trail went from 5250 elevation to 6250 in one mile. It really beat me up hard. It was good experience but it did caused me to do an honest assessment of my fitness level. I need to get out and exercise a lot more if I'm going to achieve my weight and fitness goals.

But wow, what beautiful scenery. It really is an amazing area. I hope you enjoy it.

And boy, do I miss having Thunder along with me. But he's taking walks now and is building up his strength after the knee surgery. I think I'll be able to take him on overnight trips again by September.

    Nice report!
The fire restrictions are early, aren't they! I'm a bit freaked out. I'm hoping it does not get so dry this year ALL stoves are banned.

Nice video Greg - makes me want to live near the Sierras. And good job getting out and doing it... It will make those climbs easier eventually.

Boy, that'd have to be REALLY dry. I live in Colorado and we've had firebans every year for a while now (some years worse than others), but it's never been bad enough to ban everything. Even last year when the whole state seemed to be on fire. They do sometimes burn alcohol stoves, but canister stoves have always been fine. I can't imagine they would ban those.

    Hello, Greg B,

The amazing disappearing waterfall! Very nice river, with all thoughs pine trees around, I’d enjoy hiking there! Steep, nasty hill, but your fitness seems to be improving. Well, I thought it was, but you just said your fitness is going backwards. Anyway, sounds like you learnt some highly valuable stuff. Thanks for the trip report, Greg B! I hope you make a video of the big, long hike you plan to do.

Thanks for sharing the Sierras with us GregB. I really appreciated the "then-and-now" trail conditions and comparisons.
