Hammock shock cord tie outs - how far?

Trying to figure out how far to set shock cord type side tie outs on my HH explorer. Since tension is relaxed when loaded, can I go too far? So far have been overly cautious (maybe 25-30% stretch) but that handle seems to even show the asym shape. Thanks

As far as you feel comfortable.

Theoretically, you could get 'em too tight, but I'd think that the shock cord would pull out the stakes before you really hit an issue with damaging the hammock.

Really, all that shock cord is supposed to do is keep the netting off of your face and feet. As long as it's doing that, you're golden.

aaagh, that makes sense on both counts - starting out it seems i tend to make more of certain aspects rather than underestimate. Thanks

One way to make tension setting simpler

is to abandon the integral attachment of the fly to the suspension ropes. Use a separate ridgeline, set your tension, and it will be unaffected by hanging in the hammock.
