I just received (3) TCs to make some hammocks. I was thinking I wanted to sew a channel into the end (like my ENO has) instead of whipping the ends. (Just because I like the look better)...
Is there a difference in how the hammock feels with the 2 ends?
Is one better in the long run over the other?
I have a decent sewing machine and think it should be simple process to create the channel with a triple stitch... Do I need special needle or a special thread?
What is a "thread injector"?
I believe a thread injector is a man's way of saying " sewing machine " I can't say that I've seen a huge difference between running my suspension thought the sewn ends vs whipped but I did see some. I'll explain. I used to have an Eno double. After trying to sleep in it and trying everything I could to make it as comfortable as possible I gave up. I came to the realization that it's just to short of a ride for me. During my "get a good night sleep in my Eno stage " I changed up the suspension. I had the chain links run through the sewn ends and then kinda whipped if that make sense. Then I went to strait whipped. Then I rested on chain links strait through the sewn end with no whipping or looping around. I found that in that manner it kinda opened it up a hair but just a hair....
I find that I can't really tell the difference in the two styles. Whipping the ends is just so easy.

I have been playing around with some of these too and sewed channels into the ends. I do three strait stitches along the length of the channel and then three short stitches just crossing the ends of the stitches. I like to use the Gütermann Tera 80 thread. I get mine from backwoodsdaydreamer.com. It's easy to work with and crazy strong. It is polyester and doesn't stretch much if any.
I took a pic of the end of my channel. It is kind of hard to see. It may not be the best way, but I'm a hefty guy and this method has been great for me with the TCs!

A couple of weeks back a sewed my first TC hammock. I sewed the stich lines with too short a stitch meaning the holes were very close together. I also sewed some bar tacs at the start and end of the stitch lines. What ended up happening was I cause to many preforations and when I got in, it ripped right along the stitch line and I ended up on the ground. I decided to whip the ends after that. Next time I'll use longer stitched and avoid the bar tacs.
I used to have a WB traveler that had whipped ends it was never as comfortable as my ENO. It could have just been the way the material was bunched up that caused pressure ridges. My TC that has whipped ends feels the dame as my ENO.
I used Gutterman's sew all polyester thread. I seen and read people use simple straight stitching to sew end channels.

My put... Go ahead and sew channels in all 3. Since you have 3, whip 1 and run cordage through the channels of another and check them both out. Go with whichever one you prefer. Having tried both methods, my personal preference is to use the channels. I use SMC descender rings lark's headed onto an18" long amsteel loop which is then ran thru the channel and lark's headed to the hammock. Again, this is just my personal favorite. If you don't prefer the whipped method you'll already have the channels sewn and ready to use. HYOH!
