    First timer. Can't get comfortable

Cant get comfortable in my first hammock, Ultra Lite Explorer. I continue to sag in the middle or slide to my feet.
Also, I have an upcoming trip on the AT for a week and would like opinions on what to put under me when I sleep.
I really want to like hammocks but im a tosser and dont know if it will work for me. I'll know after my trip for sure.
Any help and suggestions is appreciated

What sort of angle are your suspension lines at? You want to aim for a 30 degree angle. Also, most of us set the feet end just a bit higher to keep from sliding down like that.

I dont understand the 30degree angle suspension line. Do you mean put my feet end 30 degrees higher than the head?

What Shug said. Also, try hanging your foot end 4" to 8" higher than your head end; that's about what I shot for when I was using that particular hammock.

Getting the hang-angle, strap height, and suspension length right can really make a difference in comfort. Also, measure your hammock laying flat, between the two connections points on the fabric, then consider a ridgeline set to about 83% of that distance so your hammock will have the same 'sag' each time. Adjust the hammock ridgeline until you are comfortable.

    Another method is this: http://theultimatehang.com/hammock-hang-calculator/

Consider the calculator results as suggestions and adjust to your heart's content from there.

FWIW, the only uncomfortable nights I've ever had hammocking were when I had the hammock too "tight" (less than 30 degrees from horizontal, not enough slack or "angle of the dangle" when suspended from the trees).

Hanging the foot end higher than the head end will help with slipping down. Our torso is heavier than legs so gravity being what it is tends to put the heaviest body parts at the lowest point.

First off you are in a HH so if you have not yet done so, go to the HH site and review the set up on their video. The 30% angle is set in the HH via our ridgeline so that will not be a concern for you unless you have changed your suspension from the HH stock.

Assuming you are using the stock set up do try hanging your feet about 6 inches above your head. It will help you not slide down and for me it relieves the hyper extension in my left calf. You can also put a small pillow (or something) under your legs which helps me get more comfy.

I also toss/turn all night and have found that the first night in my hammock I will have a tough time getting comfy. After that I am fine but I also spent a lot of time practicing set up and getting comfy at home before I hit the woods. If you have not done that, you might want to. Like any new bed, it does take some time to adjust to it and tweek it to fit me just right
