A simple method for identifying your rope lengths

After I pack up my tarp ropes, I usually have a difficult time distinguishing ropes that are roughly the same size. For example, when I want a 6ft rope, I often end up unpacking one of my 4ft ropes. I wanted a simple way to identify the rope lengths so here's what I did:

Use a permanent marker (contrasting color) to put tick marks or stripes on your rope. For a 4ft length, I use 4 tick marks as follows:
| | | |

If it's a 12ft piece, I use 1 tick mark, followed by 2 tick marks with an entra space btwn the first tick mark and the 2nd two tick marks, like this:

I use a dash for zeros. 20ft would look like this: | | --

100ft: | -- --

I should note that I mark the rope on the very end with the end on the left, and mark it from left to right.

Also note that the 2 digit example didn't come out like it was supposed to. Here's a better example: 12 =

I marked my straps with 1ft increments. Turns the strap into a tape measure with no weight penalty.

That's a really good idea.

I'm going to take a ruler and mark some of my straps so I can measure fish to make sure they are legal size.

Anything other good ideas like that?
