not sure what was going. top stitch looked awesome but a tad loose. the underneath fabric was quite chaotic. bobbin thread was just going length wise and never got pulled into fabric to make a stitch just hanging there length wise in the mass of loops, tangles etc. So poured over videos tried cleaning in and around bobbin area. re-threaded everything for the hundredth time. little more cussing lol. not sure what the cure was but finally did full stitches across a stuff sack 4 times and called it quits for the night on a good note

Not sure without seeing the thread tangle, but I wonder if the machine needs to be timed? If you're sure it's cleaned and the tensioners are working properly, you might want to watch the needle interacting with the bobbin assembly while turning the machine over by hand - timing is critical.

More likely the top thread tension is too low. Increase the tension on the top thread. Leave the bobbin tension alone. Don't mess with the bobbin, unless you already did. What you are seeing on the underside of the fabric is the top thread hanging in loops. The most likely issue is top tension.

Timing problems would more likely result in missed and skipped stitches.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

This is what made me think skipped stitches. ^^^

But Rev, you're the expert here and I know I'm not I like to dabble with anything mechanical, but it'll be a lot of years before I know half what you do about sewing machines.
