ENO Profly v Sil Nylon Profly

I'm shopping for a tarp that will fit my hanging needs. I hang in an ENO DoubleNest hammock with the Guardian Bug net.

On an impulse, I picked up the 12' Kelty Noah tarp from REI. There is nothing wrong with this tarp, but I am finding that the 12' ridgeline does make site selection more of a task. Also, it's a bit large and cumbersome for my liking.

I am looking at the ENO Profly/Sil Nylon Profly, and am wondering if the $45-$50 price jump is worth it for the Sil Nylon. I understand that Sil Nylon is going to provide better water protection in the event of a downpour, but of the ProFly reviews I have read on REI.com and Amazon.com, people are saying that the basic ProFly kept them dry during rain (aside from windblown rain).

I've checked out a few other tarps that are a bit more manageable in size, but I'm not sure if any are really any better in the value column. if you have any suggestions other than the ENO ProFly, please feel free. I'd like to spend around the $80 mark for a good tarp that will suit my needs of occasional over nighter bike-camping trips. And some afternoon rainstorm hangs in the park.

Might I suggest a Wilderness Logics tadpole. It is in that price range, and in my opinion a much better tarp. Also, the warbonnet edge is comparable in size and price. These two companies have great reputations amongst hammock forum members in quality. Either way you can't go wrong

    Edit:
Here's a link to a recent thread on another happy tadpole owner, you can search around on the forums under the subheading vendors and scroll down to wilderness logics thread and find many more

And I just came upon this thread foreboding ENO tarps. Guess I'll explore other avenues of tarp-ness.

And thanks Rev. I'll look more into those tarps for sure.

I highly suggest you look at other tarp options besides ENO! You'll get a much better tarp for your money.

Warbonnet Edge or Wilderness Logics Tadpole would be my suggestions for your price range.

I have a Kelty 12, and found the same thing.

Its not bad... But its a bit big, a bit bulky, and a bit heavy.
I weighed mine and it was 2lbs... Lots of opportunity to cut weight there.
Tadpole comes tomorrow! WL took 2 days to get out an XL hammock bag and the tarp... Dunno if they have full shelves somewhere or what but very nice to order gear like this and have it ship almost immediately.

So...obviously that is my opinion of what you should do

Today just happens to be payday, so I went ahead and placed an order for the tadpole this morning. I'll be hanging dry next week hopefully.

    Thanks for your input.

ENO Profly v Sil Nylon Profly

Congrats TedDen87! I just received my brown Tadpole yesterday. It's a great piece of craftsmanship and I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I'm sure it's as functional as it is gorgeous! I love it and I haven't even used it yet, LOL!
