I want it soft

I have a RAB top quilt made from Pertx Quantum and love it. It is extremley soft and light. I"m thinking about having some custom quilts made and wanted to know if M50 is soft like pertex.

Made a synthetic top quilt using TI Goat's Nobul1 (unfortunately the quilt was a little small for me, so I sold it to a friend). It comes in at 0.67 oz/sq yd and has the nicest hand of anything I've ever worked with. Unfortunately, they're out of stock right now...but a nicely-worded e-mail might discover when they're likely to have it back in.

A note, though: their "tan" color is nowhere near as dark as what's shown on the page. I'd call it closer to "cream" in color...almost like a very light beige/tan, not quite khaki.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just worried about ending up with a "plasticy" feeling quilt.

I'd avoid using M50 then. I don't know if it softens up with use some or not, but it certainly feels "plasticy" out of the box. I'm pretty sure that it's the most wind-proof ultralight fabric on the market, though...one of the reasons that I got some. Planning on a windshirt for colder bike rides and an underquilt somewhere here in the near future (i.e.: "sometime in the next decade or so").

Interested to hear more about M50 feel as well. A BIG +1 on Pertex Quantum, though. It's an amazing-feeling fabric. SO much better over ripstop nylon.

I agree the M50 has a bit of a "plastic" texture.

One of my big regrets is selling my RAB topbag... that pertex quantum is nice! M50 isn't near as soft as the quantum, but I don't think it's too bad. I plan to make a topquilt with it later this summer. I've heard it gets better with use.

My summer quilts are made from what they now call the nobul1 from TI Goat, also. I can attest to it being soft and having nice fell, no break in needed.

I did two similar quilts in M50 and TG's "10D" which i think is close to the Nobul. Nobul was definitely softer hand and more breathable but somewhat harder to sew. The M50's surface treatment gave it more stability, especially on bias cuts.

My personal quilts are M50 shells, the first few times out they had the plastic feel but now after about a year of use the fabric is much softer and still very "tight".

Out of the box the Pertex is softer...
