    Hammock Socks

Today I ran across an item on eBay...a hammock sock. The silnylon sock goes around the hammock and looks like a Peapod, only much lighter in weight and much looser.

The premise is that it's a wind block.

So does this work well? Besides the obvious...a 9 oz increase in weight...are there any disadvantages to this?

Sil would be a disaster. Wouldn't breathe, sweaty from condensation.

Properly fitted hammock socks can gain you from 10-20 degrees in trapped heat in colder weather. Here's the link to my current design : https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=62802

Socks are very easy to make and use. If your going for really cold hammocking, I feel a sock is a necessity.

The one on your ebay link is fine from what I could see, but you can make one yourself for much less money. Do a search for hammock socks and you'll find plenty along with what works and what doesn't. If you decide to make one yourself, let me know and I'll be glad to walk you thru it.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Wow that is expensive for a sock. You are way better off making your own. If you can sew at all it is not difficult. I made mine using the instructions for the TED bugnet. There's also the SEEP style. My next one will be a combination of the TED style and the Fronkey style in order to have less material and therefore less weight. Those are both instructions for bugnets but it works the same for a sock.

Ok I guess that isn't so expensive compared to a Molly Mac sock. His is $150! I think mine may have cost $25 at most. So yeah, if you want a sock DIY is the way to go.

The other consideration is that a sock in warm weather can be a sweatbox. Plus some of the hybrid designs eliminate the tarp which is also more useful in warmer weather. Socks are nice but they are a specialty product for specific conditions more than a general product for all conditions.
    YMMV
