Question Looking for the smallest packed size hammock setup?

I'm trying to get my self setup with an 18 liter backpack for over night trips, it will be the smallest backpack setup for me to date, (I'm doing this just for fun not for serious use)
Looking to put together my most minimal hammock setup and hoping you folks could make some suggestions.
I am trying to find the hammock, suspension and rain fly that pack the smallest, small size is my main goal, not weight, any suggestions would be appreciated.

So far I think the GT nano 7 has the smallest packed size.

For bug protection I figure a head net and permethrin will do to stop the skeeters without taking up much space.

I have ideas for a rain fly yet, its easy to shop by weight but shopping by bulk/packed size/stuff sack size ect. is harder to do, and I don't even know that I have seen every backpacking hammock available yet.

If this is purely an exercise in fitting your gear into a small place, try an old trick.

When I pack my quilts and tarps (not so much my hammocks), I put them in the pack loose. This allows them to fill all the voids created by other items. My tarp goes in the back pocket of my pack (loose) for quick and easy deployment when raining. If you hike like this, you must use a pack liner and be diligent about getting a cover in place when the rain starts, lest your quilts get damp. However, you will be amazed at how much additional room you have using this method.

Worth a shot while you're experimenting anyway. Have fun!

You could do a HUG bugnet, might be more comfy than a head net. And for the tarp get a diamond or asym. For the same reason as you I did the same thing and was able to pack an overnighter in my 16L bouldering pack. My TQ was a STS Reactor Extreme and my UQ was a DIY 1.5 layer IXUQ. The net was a Fronkey net .

Yeah this works well, I have done this with my other packs, thanks for the idea, I will have to try it for this experiment.

My Sea to Summit poncho tarp actually covers my gt nano 7 pretty well. Of course you would not have rain gear to use then. I also have a nanoseeum bug sock from. Dreamhammocks that packs down as small as the nano and gives full bug protection.

mountain laurel designs is having a closeout on the asym spinntex tarp. Looks to pack very small. And $70 for a 4.4 oz tarp sounds good.

I think you've found the least reliable metric on which to base hammocking purchases. I wouldn't believe any of the manufacturer's "packed size" measurements, if they even list such a thing.

For insulation, down will be lighter and more compressible than synthetics (and more expensive).

For suspension, one would think Amsteel 7/64" or Dynaglide would be the lightest and most compressible.

For tarps, cuben fiber is definitely the lightest, and probably the least bulky, with silnylon coming in a distant second.

For hammocks, I doubt the Nano7 is any less bulky than a BIAS WWM. It even weighs more.

No its more about small not light, I could get some cubin fiber but weight is not the issue, I just want it to pack small and I don't plan to use it all the time so I am not trying to go for big money, but it does not have to be the cheapest.
