    Question PCT Hammock Journals??

    Hi Hangers!

I am looking for Trail Journals for the PCT that used Hammocks for either all of the trip or for most of it. I have found several for the AT and One so far for the PCT (Chop's) but I would like to read some more. Any that have good hammock info would be great.

Also any other Journals that are trail detailed as apposed to experience detailed. Nothing wrong with the experience based ones, and I have read quite and few and am following some this year. But, there is not a lot that are more about the trail it's self and or guide based, at least that I have found.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Check out www.hikepress.com for current PCT blogs. (nobody is hammocking that I can tell)

There are two apps one by Guthook and one by Halfmile if I remember correctly, that give you the nitty gritty on the trail. I also thing there is a PCT guidebook too.

I think the halfmile stuff is pretty infomative about the PCT in general. I have been following a few hikers this year. I am hoping to make the trek in 2015. If you find anyone hammocking the PCT please post. I am interested in this info.

From what I have been able to tell so far that most of the first 300 miles is desert and not much opportunity to hang. But then I have not found many hangers blogging about their PCT trip.

Do you have a link to Chop's PCT journal?
    Thanks,
    J

Never mind I found Chop's journal.

you may have already found this page http://www.pmags.com/pacific-crest-trail-planning-info
It is a very brief overview of the PCT but does have links to other PCT resources.

Yes, it is possible to hammock the PCT. I wrote about my experiences using my hammock in SoCal and the Sierra here and here.
And I had no trouble hanging in Washington last month either.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh cool! Sorry to hijack a thread but I didn't realize that "Rambling Hemlock" was a member here on the forums. I found your blog a while back doing some research on the Beech Creek Trail in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness and have enjoyed reading bits and pieces of it since then.

I'd also be interested in the link for Chop's blog. The PCT is in my future also and would prefer to hammock as much of it as I can. I know the guy who designed the 90* hammock did it entirely with a hammock, but since I love PCT blogs anyway...and would like to get some more insight...can someone share it. Thanks.

Chop’s trail name is Beardoh, and has journals in several places.

If I recall correctly, for his 2012 PCT hike, Beardoh started out on the ground and then went back to his hammock at mile 1300 or so. That journal is here on postholer:

Beardoh did the PCT this year again blogging at Long Distance Hiker.

If you would like to read another journal, SlowBro also brought his hammock on the PCT in 2014 and has a great journal, and his info about bringing a hammock in SoCal and the Sierra is helpful.

Lots of other people brought their hammocks for various parts of the PCT.
