Annual Greenbriar River Trail Bike and Hang

Where? West Virginia!! The Greenbriar River Trail Runs from Cass to Lewisburg.
    Mode? Bike camping.
When? Ride begins Friday June 28. Riding ends Monday July 1.
Who? HF members, their friends, family. (I don't know if pets are allowed)...

We are arriving in Lewisburg Thursday June 27 late, motelling. Meeting at the trail head Friday morning for the approx 2.5 hour shuttle to Cass.

Riding/hanging plans- Historically we've done this trip with 3 days on the trail actually cycling. This time we're doing it a bit different with 4 days actually on the trail. Why? Because we've learned that this trail needs not be rushed! We've done a lot of rail-trails and the Greenbriar is simply the best. The best riding surface, the best campsite, the best views and I could go on. So basically we're looking at 20, 20,25,15 ish miles/day.

With these miles even a SINGLE speed will be nice to ride (that is a hint for a WVa member here). Also at these miles you can:
    sleep in
    fish
    swim
    take pictures
    read a book
simply relax in a beautiful part of the world

If you are new to bikecamping this trip is for you. It is the best surface of any bike trail we've done and it's downhill!

One of these days I'm gonna make a ride like this. I'm unhappy with my first DIY bikepacking kit, so I'll be making a new one this fall.

This sounds fantastic! I have other conflicts, so I won't be able to make it (and I don't really have the carrying capacity on my bike at the moment), but I'd love to do something like this later in the summer. Could you post some information about where you'll be stopping/other logistics? Right now I just have a commuting bike for city riding - would this trail be friendly to my road tires?

I'll look forward to seeing pics.

    Greenbrier River Trail

Hint received, MM. I'd love to, and it's so close, but I have a wedding to attend on Saturday. Should be back Sunday afternoon, perhaps in time to guide you to a great swimming hole on Anthony Creek (a mile or so hike from the trail at Anthony - great campsites in the Big Draft Wilderness, too, very convenient).

Some day look into the West Fork Trail. It's a much wilder extension somewhat to the north, with a great side trail (hiking only) over a mountain to the High Falls of Cheat.

'great campsites in the Big Draft Wilderness' an example of why we need you WV. Yet weddings don't come around every day. Sunday would be nice to meet up with you for that swimming hole-but you know cell phones hardly work at all on this trail
    FIMB- dont worry about gear.
Richtorfla- no time like the present

Was this the one you showed in the video? I'm putting together thoughts for making my own ultralight pack, and am curious what you've learned . . . Thanks!

Just confirmed the shuttle for June 28th.
If you want to come the shuttle is free for up to 8 people
Just be at the southern trailhead June 28th at 0930 with your bike and camping kit.
We'll have lunch in Cass before hopping on the bikes.
Forgot to mention weather. Even though summer, you can get surprised by weather in this part of WVa....one day last year was a wet one and on bikes that can bring on the chill so don't forget your Packas. Speaking of Packas, Eddie has mine. I hope he reads this.

Klaus, maybe this is the time for some bikecamping?
and yes we've done this trail a few times now...worth repeating.
I think there are at least two vids in my youtubes on it.

This time I'm going to use a pannier But inside will be dry ice and meat
