    Wife has decided to try

My wife has agreed to give the whole backpacking/ hammocking a try. We are planning to go somewhere the weekend of the 21st. Since this is her first off the beaten path camping trip I would like to take her somewhere that is not so strenuous but has some great scenery. Looking for something within 2-3 hours from Charlotte NC. Any ideas?

Stone Mt State Park. You can hang at the drive to camp sites (shower facilities available)
and short drive to hiking trails at park.

Burrells Ford by Oconee might work. We've taken quite a few new Venture Scouts there for their first camping trip. There is a pleasant campground with tables, fire pits, and bear bag bars or you can wander along the river for less structure and more privacy. Pretty area and plenty of attractive options if you want day trips to waterfalls or need a nice civilized bail out.

    That is awesome.

Linville Gorge rim – great views, great day hike opportunities
Doughton Park – easy walk in, great trees
Shining Rock – day hike to Sam’s knob, hang at lower elevation
    Max Patch – beautiful views
Grayson Highlands – go see the ponies & highlands
South Mountain State Park – waterfalls; backcountry sites with their own pit toliets
Uwharrie Nat. Forest – hang wherever you **** well please

Jones gap state park SC is very nice and not far from you. Lot of beautiful waterfalls and easy hiking to get to your campsites. If you get a close one they have bathrooms and what not. Good luck! Hope she enjoys it!

Think we decided on a short hike into Harper's Creek Falls in Pisgah. A little more strenuous but a really short hike and I know she will love the falls. Thanks all.
