Long time lurker on these forums,
Picked up a HH hyperlite Asym, after spending years following various ultralight hammock hikers,
many thanks to all the open discussion on various aspects of camping/backpacking,
Been backpacking for years, and came so close to buying a hammock way back in 2006-7 when Sgt Rock first started experimenting with hammocks for his section hikes. Stuck to the ground since then but just put time aside this summer to section hike the AT from Hudson river to ... whenever I run out of energy in MA/VT, and want to avoid the lean-to shelters, minimize my weight and actually get a decent night's sleep this time.
I'm not much of a DIY guy, but a looking to try some easier things,
built another alcohol penny stove,
sewing a silnylon rain kilt,
sewing some silnylon stuff sacks with the extra material,
grab some tyvek ground sheets from some buddies,
And the big one for me is this:
the tulle net tarp "snakeskins" DIY project,
(unless someone sells these?)
A big shout out to Sgt Rock and the peeps on his hikinghq forums, I pulled alot of info from his corner of the 'net in 2006-2008 to get myself up to date on lightening skin out weight.
