    First True Hammock Camping Trip

Could not be happier with my first trip. Went to Arkansas to visit 3/4 of my children/grandchildren for Father's Day weekend and camped out at Toad Suck Ferry. Picked a spot with a nice breeze but no two trees the right distance so hung from a tree and man-made structure:

Puppy dog UQ worked great and DIY CF3 tarp was so easy to handle. Was very comfortable asleep at night.

The military bug net worked okay but it is heavy, so I'll continue the quest for a lightweight insect barrier.

Got all my gear in the DIY UL backpack (except the bug net, which I had purchased on the way to camp).

Best of all my two granddaughters had their first camping trip in a tent close by with their dad. Who has a great son-in-law?

    ME!

Looks like a good time was had by all! I love the name "Toad Suck Ferry". I'm still new at this. What is a puppy dog underquilt?

I'm relatively new to this, too, Wisp. To save money I bought some fluffy fleece material at Wally World and did a DIY 3/4 length summer under quilt. It cost me very little but will work until I can make a proper one of down and M50.

Looks like a great trip. As for the son-in-law, he's forcing the grandkids to sleep in tents - you better set him straight.

Something is not computing - you have 1,157 posts, a DIY CF tarp (which probably goes great with the puppydog UQ), and this is your first true hammock camping trip?

I went out to the local lake for one night recently but that was hardly a trip.

    Have I done something wrong?

No, no. I just assumed you were a grizzled veteran of hammock camping based on your posting history and interests. Most folks don't DIY a CF tarp before their first true hammock camping trip!

It just struck me as a bit incongruous and surprising.

No one is most folks, Silvr. Every one is the most interesting person that ever lived, right?
