Wow that looks like a pretty decent tarp. And Loooong!
Nice tarp. I like good coverage
You have a link to this tarp? I can't seem to find it.
I have to agree these are awesome as far as the coverage and the weight is not bad. Just be aware the center seam will need some work and possibly the tie-outs as well.
I have a couple of videos I have done on the seams and size of the tarp.

If these do go up for sale again I will be buying a couple more of them. I keep my eye open for them, but have not seen any since the first batch ran out.

So this is the 11x11 tarp which gives a 14' ridgeline? Does anyone know the ridgeline length on the 8.5x8.5 tarp? I feel like this could be a great tarp for the money, especially for my kids. Obviously I wish it was lighter weight but there is no way to afford to buy Hammock Gear CF tarps for 3 kids.
No! This is not the 11x11 Guide Gear tarp. The tarp in gravitino's pic is the 11.5 x 14' Guide Gear Emergency Shelter with poles ( http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=986777 or alternatively http://www.bargainoutfitters.com/net....aspx?a=541441). It has cat-cut sides (two tie-outs on each side) that stretch out to 11.5 ft. in width with the ridge-line at 14 ft. (At the area of the ridge-line tie-outs there is also grommets to hold the tips of the included sectional poles, because a ridge-line is not included). He tossed the poles and added his own ridge-line.
The green 11x11 Guide Gear Tarp you are thinking of has no poles nor grommets...it's diagonal ridge-line is 15.5 ft (when setting it in a diamond configuration). http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c...aspx?a=1148204
The green 8.5x8.5 Guide Gear Tarp has a 12 ft. ridge-line. (when setting it in a diamond configuration).
The 8.5x8.5 ft. and 11x11 ft. also come as the Digital Camo HQ ISSUE Tarp. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=1145824
I have the 11.5 x 14' Guide Gear Emergency Shelter and both the 8.5x8.5' & 11x11' Digital Camo HQ ISSUE Tarps.
My fave for hanging is the 11.5 x 14' Guide Gear Emergency Shelter, just like in gravitino's pic...I just wish I could have got it in the Digital Camo. I ditched the poles and the crappy tie-out lines. I'm using a whoopiesling continuous ridge-line with prussic & mini S-biners (I prefer under so I can quickly attach a modded Milsurp Skeeta-Tent bug-net if needed.)
To further clarify (or confuse), Sportman's Guide (same peeps run bargainoutfitters.com) also sells the Digital Woodland Tarp in both 7'4" x 9'6" and 11'4" x 15'6" versions. This tarp has no tie-outs, just No-rust polyester carbonate grommets every 2' as guy-out points. (I've not checked these out in the flesh). http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=1317437
The formula for calculating the ridge-line set on the diagonal for any rectangular tarp is: the Square Root of (Length squared + Width squared). For the mathematically challenged, you're in luck because here's a link to an online Rectangle Area & Diagonal Length Calculator http://ncalculators.com/area-volume/...calculator.htm
The tarp ridge-line = Rectangle Diagonal Length If you run a continuous ridge-line, Be sure to add onto this figure what you will need for you anticipated tie-out spans (beyond the tarp) & what diameter tree (or whatever) you anticipate tying off to...I'd add at least an additional 18-24 feet (minimum 30 feet overall) to be safe in the wild...better to have and not need than need and not have!
