    Bananahama

There's a new bike design on Kickstarter that incorporates a hammock:

    Bananahama

As a long-time member of the Bentrideronline forums, I'm left wondering "Why didn't I think of that?" The consensus over there is that the front mount looks dangerous in a crash, but that it could be made into some sort of loop back down into the frame to make it safer.

I really like the concept, but for tall people it seems a bit short in height and in leg distance to the pedals. I imagine it would be very hard to pedal, and as they say in the video, a good leg workout. Maybe if they offered a taller version, I'd order one if the price wasn't out of this world. Nice idea though, very nice, and doesn't hurt your butt.

They need to mod it so that the "foot end" of the hammock can be raised and attached to something further out/higher up, and the bike is now acting as your hammock stand so you can sleep in it between rides.

    A BananaHama Update

First off, thank you for mentioning our unique bikes on this Forum.

We are a new bike company with an actual NEW KIND OF BIKE!

The bikes will be on the Today show this Friday at 9am.

The issue with the front HAMA attachment (our name for the Hammock design we came up with) has been fixed as you will be able to see on our big Trike. That is how all our production models will be made. The HAMA is adjustable front and rear to get the optimum height and angle for each rider.

In addition we have several different types of HAMAs - some with padding to keep the rider more up-right if they so desire.

We have had 6'2" people weighing over 240 lbs riding without problems. I am not sure D12 would be that comfortable though.

Price - out of this world?? We priced the bikes a little higher than standard beach cruisers but if you buy one on our Kickstarter campaign you will get a nice discount and help us build the company.

There are a bunch of videos and more info on our site at http://bananahama.com.

I will be happy to answer any other questions.

Please let your friends know about us.

    Thanks,
    Barry
