Because I paddle for the most part, not only do I take whoopies, straps, and biners as a back up, I also take a spare hammock!! Occasionally, I will have someone paddling with me that wants to try it. So, with all the stuff on hand, it is quite possible. I have made some converts.

Figure if I can carry a 12 inch cast dutch oven, I can handle a few spare parts for the hammocking part of the adventure.

    Spare Suspension / Repair

I had an odd one happen last weekend. The rounded hook on my original style Dutch Clip poked a hole through the middle of my tree strap under load. It was really hard to get undone because the strap was torqued tightly around the tree. It held through the weekend even with a hole in the tree strap. This gives me confidence the tree straps are strong. When I got home I discarded the tree straps for new ones.

My pack-hanging strap is primarily carried as a spare tree-strap or strap-extension. Several zing-it dogbones in with my tarp stakes, and 20' of muletape stuffed somewhere, I feel more comfortable knowing I got my most likely problems covered.

a Dog bone is a length of line with loops in both ends. We first started making them a few years ago. We call them Suspension Extensions. The Dog bone name comes from climbers webbing loops made with the webbing send into a loop and then the loop sewn down in the center giving a bone shape to it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Even if your method is to tape the tapered end of the line to facilitate splicing, you should remove the tape when finished making the bury.
