My apologies for some information gaps on the website. I am working on filling some of those in. In the meantime, let me see if I can answer some of your questions.
Regarding the taper style:
The half taper option is for folks that might use their quilts on the ground or just need a bit more coverage in the hip area. "Active" sleepers are sometimes a fan of the extra hip room. The difference is that the straight taper starts at the widest point (the head end) and immediately begins to taper down to the narrowest point (the foot end). The half taper does not begin to narrow until about the halfway point to the foot end.

My opinion on the 50° Burrow is that it is quite conservative in it's rating. YMMV but I can usually get it down closer to 40° and I am a normal to warm sleeper. Thanks LRR for your imput as well.
