I was thinking about hanging another hammock under it for this reason. I car camp for the most part so extra weight isn't an issue. They may still get in between but may try it in warm weather.
Which is most of the time in Louisiana.

When I got my HH I received the cub for free. I gifted the cub to my buddy's 4 year old but I kept the rain Fly it came with. Im not a person that can Sew well but was wondering if any of you had any ideas of using the smaller fly for bug protection underneath. What do you all think I could do?
Permethrin will solve all your troubles.
If you ain't havin' fun, you're doin' it wrong
I remember when I bought my first hammock, a HH Explorer U/L, I asked them at the time about bugs biting through the material and the response was that the U/L material was a tighter weave and therefore was better at discouraging bites on the backside. I've never been bitten, but then again, I've never really camped in an area where bugs have been an issue. That's one of the reason's I have a netless hammock now.
I have to agree with the person who suggested wearing a shirt, and I would even go as far as to say that some sort of thin blanket or sheet should be enough material to discourage bites. This is at the very least an immediate solution if not the best.
I'm wondering, though, if Big Island bugs top the monsters I've seen in eastern SC!?!
