Been there, done that. Only thing that I can see that happened is that there was a flaw in the fabric. Ended up on my end in the mountains near Big Timber, MT, early evening in late October. 1.0 ACU camo. BIAS replaced it immediately. Even they couldn't figure out what happened. I was wearing fleece pants and no sharp edges of anything live in my hammock. Have been fine ever since. Don't think weight was too much of a factor since I'm 150#.

It was DIY by ME, so I guess I'll cover my own warranty and replace it

mine was a Nano 7, 2 hours into deep sleep THUMP=sound of my body hitting ground and air pushed out of lungs... Tear looked like a hot knife had gone through it.
Pays to study the landing zone under the hammock just in case.

My opinion? Give it another go with the 1.1 and be careful of what you hang over. Small stuff can damage the fabric, which leads to...well...y'know... Inspect it after each trip or before each hang for small tears in the middle of the fabric (the most likely spot for something to rub against the fabric and cause a small tear, as it's the closest portion to the ground).

    Yep. What he said.

Ripstop is meant to stop a tear with the weight of the fabric behind it, not your body weight. The advantage of ripstop is that it's readily available in very light weights, not that it will keep an hammock from ripping with an 100+ lbs in it.

Absolutely. A wonderful corollary to "never hang higher than you're willing to fall." Doesn't matter how far the fall is if it's onto a sharp rock...

    Hope it helps!

I have been a bit sloppy about letting my hammock fall on the ground during set up and take down, and admittedly, not once did I ever inspect it.
I will make a couple more of the 1.1 oz, as I said I absolutely loved my now destroyed set-up. I plan to just go ahead and make two more like the one I had, seeing as they don't live as long as the higher thread count hammocks.
I guess you could say it was an inspection when I sat on it and found that it was NOT in suitable condition to sleep in it. :P

The hammock is balled up in a tub of mixed fabrics now, awaiting a second life.
I should have snapped a shot of it dangling between the trees in pieces. Straight rip, tho. Dead center from one side to the other. The thread I sewed it with seemed to be holding it just enough not to cause the two pieces to separate.

    ^ Mountainman, lol!
I may not inspect my hammock carefully, but I always check out what is under my hammock, and I don't typically hang it very high, so my kerplunk was actually quite gentle and onto soft leafy debris and my fairly well padded buttocks. My coccyx was safe, whew!

That would of been a very interesting picture too

was dead center your connection point for the 2 pieces?
