    New UL MARPAT Hammock

Knocked out this hammock today in about 1.5 hours (I'm slow but with practice hope to get better). It is 10.5 feet by 60 inches made of 30 denier rip stop nylon MARPAT from Magna Fabrics. It weighs an incredible 6.5 ounces. It tested well -- not a single pop or groan was heard when loaded and it felt nice, roomier than my GT UL. Got a bunch of this fabric for making Christmas presents. Will probably keep this one because I can do better for others in the family.

The practice will help when I tackle the UQ sewing phase with Argon cloth.

Yes, it is nice. Think I'll make an 11x12' DIY silnylon tarp out of it like yours for car camping, since I'll have quite a bit left over.

But the hammock today inspires me to get some soft shackles for a truly UL rig like olddog's SLS to go with my cuben tarp and UQ, featuring Argon cloth.

Thank you, nothermark. I didn't "need" one, either! LOL

Looks good. I am making a 11ft double with the same fabric.

Hard to beat Magna Fabrics prices

    Hmmm ...

An 11ft double is a great idea! I'll bet a man could get down to really low temps with that!

    You know ...

DL puts you into the pads arena, which is much cheaper for young families to get started in hammock camping. Hmmm ...

Just finished a Marpat storm bug net out of 30D, water resistant/barely breathable ripstop from DIYgear and olive noseeum from Skeeta.
Have the 30D ripstop ready to go for the 11 ft hammock (because the storm bug net clashes with my ACU camo BIAS )

I use UQs so I do not leave an opening for a pad but I do have one DIY that I did leave a pad opening just in case I wanted to play around with a pad or needed to lend it to someone.
