    Depends on the quality of mortar.Too heavy on the sand and it is not going to hold. If it is solid ,there are anchors called double expanders that will take a lot of stress.They pull in as the bolt is tightened. These work real good in concrete. Probably a dozen other fasteners that I have never seen that will work too.
