Minimal bottom insulation for warm (55-70F) summer temps

I found threads on a search saying that 1/4" pads will take people down to the 40s...I don't need that much. I'm experimenting this summer with using just a sleeping bag liner for top insulation and am considering a 1/8" evazote pad for that small range between not needing bottom insulation and needing my 3 season setup. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with 1/8" pads to say how effective they find them? I'm an average sleeper as far as I can tell.

i'm pretty sure that a 1/8 inch pad would work in summer time temps, but have never tried it for myself so I can't say for sure.

I just came back from a trip past weekend in which the nighttime low temp was in the low 70s. I had been kayaking all day so my body temp was on the low end of normal.

Using nothing more than a poncho liner as a top quilt, I slept just fine....not cold at all.

thanks Texas-grrl. That's encouraging to hear. I may hold off on the pad until I try a couple nights with just my liner.

A lot of our members seem to have antifreeze in their veins. Not me. I think we see more posts from people who are proud of how well their gear has worked. If I'm aware of being a bit cold during the night, it affects my sleep, but I don't dash to the computer and post about it. Find your own comfort level.

In summer temps I think a foam pad will be kind of clammy, YMMV. Snuggling up in my poncho liner or fleece blanket in the 70s is just fine. I kind of tuck the edges under me if anywhere get cool.

At 55-70 degrees, I'm not sure I'd even bother with a pad.

Below that, down to around 40 degrees, I insert a 6ft by 1.5 ft piece of reflectex into the double layer of my WBRR.

If you're cold at 55-70 degrees, you might want to consider using reflectex under you. It makes a big difference in warmth.

I'm going to try laying an Icelandic wool throw blanket between the layers of my Blackbird XLC in the back yard tonight instead of hanging my UGQ down underquilt. The low temps are not supposed to get below the high 60's and I'm anxious to see how it works. I'm thinking it will be much more breathable/comfortable than a thin pad.

    Take it easy,

I showed this to Medicine Man at the start of his Greenbrier River Trail bike trip. You can see it briefly near the beginning of his video here.
