I have the 1.1 single, and my wife has the 1.7 double (gotta keep her warm). The 1.1 material feels a little nicer to the touch, I think, but that's about the only difference I've found. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably go with 1.1 double for both of us.

I have both a 1.1 DL and a 1.7 DL. I weigh around 210 and am 5 feet 11. The 1.1 DL is super. Save the weight and go with the 1.1, in my opinion.

1.7 WILL hold more weight. Check his web site. I got the 1.7 used here on the forum. But then it was pointed out that given my weight, the 1.7 was about twice the strength I'd need. I have a bad back and am getting "up there" in years, so shaving off half a pound was worth it and when WB had a sale, I bought a 1.1 double. I like the double for a few reasons. Skeeters can't bite thru it. I can slide in a pad and it won't move all around. I've also put my wet clothes in between layers, so some body heat will dry them.....or at least they'd be wet but WARM in the morning.
Comfort seemt identical to me. I can't tell any difference when I'm in one.

    I also have both...and I'm about 240lbs.

The double 1.1 stretches a little under my weight, but it is only slightly less comfortable. I have no problems whatsoever taking the double 1.1 for a multi-night hike; done it plenty of times. Unless you are really aiming for maximum comfort and don't care too much about weight, there isn't really any reason for someone of your size to get the 1.7 double. Go with the 1.1 and you'll be perfectly happy while carrying less weight.

Like I said, I don't think comfort will be an issue with your weight.

The 1.1 fabric does seem to have a slightly smoother feel to it, but otherwise you could probably get in both with a blindfold and not be able to tell the difference between the two from a comfort perspective. I think any stretch starts to come into play for folks that are in excess of 200lbs. Even then, a little bit of stretch is actually preferred by some folks.

No reason to haul the extra weight for only the smallest of benefits (softer fabric).
