    Thumbs up TN>Citico Creek Wilderness - June 21-23, 2013

I hiked in the Citico Creek Wilderness in SE Tennessee on the NC border last weekend. Happened to be summer solstice and longest day of the year. A female U.S. Marine veteran went with me and Tipi Walter met us our first morning and was our guide and trail blazer for two days. We had a great time and enjoyed it so much that we're going back some time in July.

I was the only hammock-hanger, but got to impress Tipi with my new DIY underquilt.

Photo Album link. The photo captions are my trip report.

    Enjoy!

Awesome trip report RainMan. Tipi is the man for that area and carrying heavy loads. One of the places I want to go hike. BigRed77

Wow! That makes me wanna go too! I've hiked part of Slick Rock Creek trail on the TN/NC line from Caulderwood lake back to several waterfalls. And there were many creek crossings. Were there a lot of crossings on Citico Creek? Maybe we could plan a paddle/camp/hike?

    Thumbs up

L.D., we had three actual fords, all on the South Fork Citico Creek, none bad. Two of those can be easily by-passed. We had numerous "rock hops" and "step across" creek crossings, too.

You're all welcome for the report. Happy to share. I plan to organize and lead another hike there in July, getting ready for a big AT hike in August in NH/ME. I post some hikes here and on WhiteBlaze, but mostly I lead them through the Nashville Backpacker Meetup group on www.meetup.com.

Great report! Thanks, RM! I noticed that the female Marine was the only one without a headnet - Hoo- Ahh!

Rookie mistake! And yet she trained at Paris Island (as all the female Marines do), in my home state of South Carolina.

I bet when we go back to Citico or Joyce Kilmer this month, she'll have one in the photos?

She was a tough hiker and great trail companion ... and smart.

Rain Man, looked like a pretty long stretch on your hang. Did you have to use extenders ?

GOOD LORD ... did Tipi plan on doing his Solo 18 day hike with that 4Season, 3 man Helleburg Tent?
