I am looking for a larger and heavier duty hammock for backyard and car camping use.....with kids (the killer of all gear).
I am thinking a larger gathered end hammock made of taffeta or some other heavy duty material.
Anybody have any ideas?

This is one of the 4 they sell, and they are comfy

My sons are 21 and 14 years old and I still don't trust them in anything but a tablecloth hammock. They are gear wreckers.
Just sew a channel on the end and add suspension?
You could try these Byer of Maine hammocks from Sierra Trading Post for $15.95.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
Or just whip the end and add suspension.
W fold, warbonnet ball or try other fold types until you get what you want.
What do you do for bug nets?
Just made my first table cloth hammock the other night.
Its smart, do that.
Honestly worked really well, I didn't even bother with fancy accordion folds...
Just folded in half once length wise, held the loose end in my left and the fold in my right, then just started gathering the material into my right hand. Once I had the whole thing in a gather I carefully pulled the ends out an inch or so, then whipped real tight with out letting go.
Very very easy, and lays no different then a "real" hammock.
Plus if you whip you can mess with the gather method to get the exact lay you want.
If you can sew, I would do a tube. From what I can see they can be close in weight to something like the fronkey/buginator design, but seem easier to pull off the hammock and move over the suspension if you don't need them.
