    My mountaintop experience

Planned a quiet little outing last weekend that ended up different than I would have prefered. Was gonna relay the story here, but didn't get around to it this past week, so here's my blog post if you're looking to share a fellow-hammocker's grief: http://klaussinator.wordpress.com/20...op-experience/

Yeah, friends are good! The trooper is actually the brother of the commander for the boys group (Royal Rangers) at our church, and I've been pushing them to try hammocks for their outings ... maybe some good will come of it if they get to takling.

Wow! On the one hand that s**ks big time. OTOH, you are lucky you know these folks so you could get a call!

Who were the people who walked past your camp in the middle of the night? Was it the Law looking for the owner of the truck?

Strikes me as officialdom overstepping what they need to do. There was a note on the seat. If there was somebody there doing mischief they have the car registration. OTOH if you had not been connected you would have walked out to a missing truck and a lot of pointless hassle assuming you were on unposted public land.
    YMMV

Yeah, the trooper said he " let the deputies take a look around while he ran the tags." (Ha, That's called seniority.) I Really thought they'd spot me and come over to see what's up- oh well.

Believe me, I'm very careful about trespassing and issues like that, having handled a lot ofof those calls over the years I understand the property owners' frustrations. Although it is a dead end road, its public access with a street name and everything. The equipment buildings for each tower are surrounded with barbed wire fencing and have very bold no trespassing signs, but those are the only signs there. For me to park my truck on the shoulder of the road and walk back into the mountain shouldn't be a cause for concern, but I guess right now there's a lot of paranoia going around when it comes to issues like hacking our communications. Guess maybe I need to go find a low-tech mountain somewhere, haha.

Maybe next time call out to them instead of staying stealthy?
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
