What to do with the tag end of my adjustable ridgeline

You shouldn't need 5-6' of adjustability on a ridge line, IMO. At most, I would say 8" and I would just do a taut-line hitch or slippery half hitch with it.

By chance, if you meant that 5-6 feet, meant 5-6 inches then you should use " not '.

5-6" I'd tie it up. 5-6' I'd figure 8 wrap it or cut and backsplice then use it for something else.

If your ridgeline length is set where you want it why not cut the excess?

Once I got mine all dialed in I cut the tag end back to about 4inches and tied and overhand knot right where it comes out of the bury. I've never needed to loosen my Ridgeline but in have needed to tighten it due to close trees. The overhand knot let's me return the ridgeline to its correct length.

Once you have your ridgeline set, you shouldn't need to adjust it. The ridgeline is set, so when you hang at different locations, you get the same lay. I place my ridgeline, tag end at the feet, so it's not in my face.

And like others have said, if it's 5-6 feet, I would cut it shorter. Set it where it's comfortable, and then cut a few inches longer, so if you want to play with it, and make some adjustments, you still can.....RR

I put a soft shackle around mine secure it to the ridgeline and if I ever need the SS, I have one handy. I put those things all around the place. Mine tail is about 8-10 inches and I keep it toward the foot end so it is not near my face.

5-6 feet of tail and something is very wrong as we just don't use that much line in making them. I could see a couple feet of line if it's on a fairly short hammock. I just knot it up with a couple half hitches to keep the extra out of the way. I don't like to cut them. First off you may decide to go longer after a few trips. Finding comfort is something that takes time...for me getting it dialed in just right can mean more than a few trips. Second there is the possibility of moving the adjustable one to another hammock down the road, playing with it, if that hammock is longer or shorter you will need to find the sweet spot for it....Of course you can always order another for each hammock, thats OK to.

I have about a foot of play in the end. Keep it inside the channel of the ridge line storage bag.
I'm adjusting the length a lot, depending on the hang height & distance between trees.

I wasn't aware any of these factors made a difference in ridgeline length? While I do adjust mine until I find a comfortable amount of sag, I would think any changes in length would affect the lay.
