you will go up I-75 out of Knoxville towards Lexington, Ky then take another interstate out of there then take Burt Combs or McCombs parkway..4 lanes all the way to Slade. According to mapquest it takes 6 hours to get from Winston-Salem to Slade...heck it takes me 5 hours from Nashville

there is a chance I may be at RRG that weekend. A friend is having a farewell hike that weekend. He may be taking a job in South Korea for a yr. We plan on camping at Hansens Point Sat night. I might drive up Friday night and camp at Grays Arch trail head then take the Sheltowee Trace trail Sat morning to the Rough Trail and then to Hansens Point

Question 5/4 RRG hike still on

I know I'm coming to this late, but I just got off 3 wks on the AT. Is anyone still going to RRG May 4-6? If so - where and when?

As of now, I think my wife and I are going to stay Saturday night. I amazed she agreed to go.

I have not decided where to go yet, but if the wife comes it will have to be a fairly short hike in. I am thinking about the Koomer Ridge area.

    whikeyjoe,
Welcome to the forum. Another Kentucky hanger. Yay.

I would join you, but that is Cinco de Mayo and I work at a Mexican resturant.

Sounds great, Headchange. I think I'll go up on Friday and spend the day hiking toward you if my doc clears my knees. (The AT was hard on me the last few weeks.) Otherwise, I'll just hike in to Koomers. What time do you think you will get there? I assume you will be going in from the campground area.

I normally park in the hikers lot at the camp ground. I don't have a time frame yet, but I will keep you updated.

There is a camp spot about a mile in with a fire ring. It's right at the Koomer ridge, Buck Trail, Hidden Arch trail junction. I kinda had that spot in mind. If my wife drops out I would be up for a longer hike.

I saw some cool spots on top of the ridges at Courthouse Rock and ontop of the Indian stairs. The pics I posted where from a couple trees on top of the Indian stairs. It looked heavily used, so close firewood and privicy maybe an issue. There was also no water at either place.

Welcome to the Forums, WJ. GLad to have another Kentucky hanger with us, too. Don't worry about your knees, I'm a nurse, I'll write ya an excuse and clear 'em if your doc doesn't. Hope to see ya soon!
