    Questions about splicing Zing-It

Hey guys, I tried calling all my local hardware and hobby shops, and no one in my area has any rope splicing tools or kits. So what do you guys use to feed your Zing-It through the bury? For my amsteel I folded a guitar string in half, fed that through, looped my tapered end in that and pulled it through, but I think even that may be too thick for the Zing-It! Any ideas out there?
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.

I just use a bit of thin gauge florist wire. You can get it at any craft store.

Oh no kidding? In that case the guitar string may just work, because it's no thicker than that!

I use a $3 loop turner from wal-mart for all my splicing of amsteel and zing-it! Works great for me, I keep one in my pack with extra line for on the trail emergency fixes.

I've been using a large sewing needle whoose end I blunted with a bit of emery cloth. It works realy well, but to get a 3.5 fid bury it takes a few times to get it through.

I use a guitar string too. Do you taper the end of your zing-it before you try and bury it? I find it absolutely essential to get it through.

Oh I definitely will taper the ends, I just haven't gotten that far yet. Just finished cutting the lengths for my guy lines allowing for 2 inch eyes using a locked brummel. A 2 inch bury should be good, right?

I would say so, not including taper. But maybe someone more qualified could verify?

Something else you might be interested in, did you know that locked brummels reduce the strength. Better to have a long bury splice with some threads of tooth floss to keep it there. Also I've found some nylon thimbles (eyes that fit inside your eyesplice to protect the braid).
