    Current Setup:

    Homemade Cat cut tarp ~11X8 (coming soon - ~12X10 BlackCat Tarp)
    JRB Nest Underquilt

    For colder temps I add a 3/4 length ThermaRest UL Pad
    Snakeskins (but I may make and try a BlackBishop bag)

    My setup changes pretty often depending on what I'm testing, where I'm going, what mood I'm in, etc. Here's one gear list though:

    I'm using a HH Expedition with either the HH sil hex fly or 11ft x 10ft diamand fly I cut out of a standard Hennessy hex fly. The unused one doubles as a bicycle cover.
    The rest of my set up depends on temps:
    Hot= JRB Nest with fleece blanket.
    Cool= JRB Nest with NoSniveller.
    Cold= JRB Old Rag under with NoSniveller w/ modified HH Overcover
    XCold= all the above as needed.

    If you must choose between two evils, opt for the one you've never tried before

    I've cut it twice and it's still too short.

    Sorry, I guess I didn't read the whole question.

    HH Ultralight a-sym- This is the only hammock I've ever tried.

    Nunatak Arc Alipnist- I like using a quilt rather than a bag in or out of a hammock. Much easier to get into, is lighter, and packs smaller.

    JRB Nest- I find the underquilt much more comfortable then a pad because I found it a pain to get it under me while entering, won't move out from under you during the night, breaths much better, greater temp range due to the adjustments you can make, and packs smaller.

    MacCat Deluxe- The tarp that came with the HH was to small for me.

    Hope this is more of what you were looking for.

    [QUOTE=NCPatrick;10509]My present setup:
    with Niteize figure 9 rope tighteners on the tarp ridgeline tie-outs (trying them out).
    QUOTE]

    How do you like the figure 9's? I picked up two pairs last fall while I was in Flaggstaff. I had never heard of them before but I thought they would work well for the tarp. Then I totally forgot I bought them until I saw them in a recent issue of Backpacker. I am not too sure if they will work with the Aircore rope I use. I hope to try them out soon.

    I borrowed some from blackbishop, but haven't had a very good chance to use them except in the yard (where they worked just fine). Then I saw the picture in the gallery of how he used them and realized I hadn't used them correctly, so on my next trip I'll really get a better feel for them. I like the concept.

    There is a vast amount of info in these forums, but trying to do the research to buy my first hammock has got my head spinning, popping in and out of threads and different forums and different websites.

    So far for me the clark seems to be the way to go. I like the insulating pockets and more importantly the weather shield. But as everyone here knows more than I, a side by side sort of comparison with the +'s and -'s would sure be helpful.
    Let me see if I can throw even more to think about at you.

    What are factors important to you? ie cost, versatility, weight, bugs, cold weather, warm weather.

    HH are bottom loaders with built in bugnets. Great for bug season, still work but not as great of a feature in colder months. I have a HH, currently on loan to someone I hope breaks into hammocking .

    I am using a homemade speer style hammock. I really like the top loader and detachable bugnet option. This makes it really easy to lounge or add other things I like for winter use. It is also nice to reach things on the ground while layin down.

    I am an underquilt/peapod fan instead of pads or adding anything to pockets in the bottom of the hammock. I haven't tried anything with pockets, but I think it would hard not to have air gaps (cold spots) unless I got my gear in it just right. I usually do not carry enough extra stuff to use it like this and stay warm anyways.

    To me an underquilt is the most comfortable. I really want to try out a peapod something though. The nice thing about them is you can move them to the side when it is too warm to use them. Or in an emergency you can use them on top of you on the ground.
    Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
