DIY Hammock Stand from Swing Set Brackets

After reading an extensive amount about backyards stands, I noticed that the TurtleDog stand greatly resembles a swing set.

A few people talked about how you have to be careful with the TurtleDog stand. I want a stand that is very robust that I don't have to worry about toppling over and also will look good in the backyard.

The problem I see from hanging from a normal swingset is that the top rail may be too high.

I found these swing set brackets that would easily allow you to build a hammock stand to practically any height by adjusting the leg length.

It would look like this without the swings of course.

    Swing Set

Seems like a cheap easy way to build a stand where you don't have to worry about the engineering or safety.

Two carriage bolts can easily be added to the bottom ends of the top plank which will make it just like a TurtleDog stands compression tube.

    What do you think?

It will likely work, but you probably will need at least one additional diagonal brace at each end, as the bracket is fairly compact. I would also hand pick the top rail piece to insure no twist or warp. Go for it and show us what it will do.

I may be wrong but if it is engineered to hold multiple people swinging on it at the same time, I think it should hold one or even two people in a hammock.

There doesn't appear to be any "engineering"...they are just selling braces. The end product will only be as strong as the wood put into it. o4h is correct, it will probably need additional bracing.

Here's one I built, that is similar.

I forgot to add that this brace is used also:

The set used as a swing set is supposed to support 375lbs.

I'll probably order these this week. I want to check the local stores first.
