    Hello from the Upstate

My wife and I use to backpack during our college days and several years later I want to get back into it. We started camping again recently with the little ones and I think its time to start packing again. Pulled the old tents out and discovered they do not seem to be waterproof anymore and aren't even produced anymore (Walrus Arch Rival). Started doing some research and discovered hammocks. Since the wife can't really sleep on the ground anymore without a really thick (6") blow up mattress, I figured this might be the way to go. Looking forward to learning something new and trying my first hammock night.

Welcome aboard. Take a look a DIY and watch for a hang in your general area. Most are drive in maybe short walk events where you will probably we welcomed to come and look at and maybe try other folks gear. If you do some reading in the meantime you will be all set. Be aware, like any sport there are multiple paths to take for most levels of pocketbook. Do not get stampeded into anything. ;-)

Welcome to the forum. This a great community of people on this forum and were always eager to help a new hammock convert. I switched to hammock from a tent and am not looking back. It can be a little overwhelming there is so much different hammock gear and gizmos. I was on the forum for a pretty long while before I got my first hammock (diy). You can make a hammock pretty easily and there are lots of great deals in the for sale section.

Yes, that's true. I'm actually about 7 miles south of Westminster but do most shopping in Seneca.
