Harriman Backpack: Stockbridge Cave Shelter - Friday, December 9, 2016 (3 miles)

We can meet at the Old Silver Mine Ski Center parking lot in Stony Point, NY (41.2956070,-74.0596100) and hit the trail at around 3:00pm. Let us know if you can't make it out at that time or until Saturday and we can arrange for Chris to meet everyone else at the parking lot at 10:30am on Saturday morning. Or you can also meet us at the caves.

DRY CAMP - please bring plenty of water with you - there may be a spring, but Harriman has been bone dry this year, do NOT depend on it.

From the parking lot (drive to the right hand side once you enter parking lot), pick up the Yellow Menomine trail (stay to the right at the fork immediately after the picnic tables and gate) to take you across Seven Lakes Drive and northbound along the yellow blazed trail. Lake should be on your left at this point.

About 1.5 miles in you will intersect the Green blazed Long Path. Hang a RIGHT here (north) and climb up to Stockbridge Shelter. Take in the views, then keep going north for about .3 of a mile until you come to a steep climb down to a sizable flat area. This is camp, and you will see sweet cave area along the rock formation you just descended and a fire pit about 30' away.

There are also plenty of spots to hang!

BYO food and stove? The one issue I may have is Temp. I have winter quilts on order but at the moment am working with 20 degree Top and under. I think i just made it with the temp this past weekend. Ill have to keep an eye on the weather. Psyched to see a Harriman hang listed for sure.

Not for a while. But i will keep an eye on the weather and if it looks bad i can try and scape something pathetically innovative together. I am very probable at this point.
