Where do you put your boots/ footwear

    Hi guys,

Slight dilemma on where to keep my boots. outside / inside hammock......Allow me to explain further.

Mainly use my DD front line hammock and I tend to wear lowa Military boots, I have rigged up a small carabiner on the inside of the net at the foot end and 15 inches of elastic in a loop . this seems to hold them up and in place , tested to many times recently and seems to work ok. The issue I have is bringing wet dirty boots into my sleeping area when the weather turns again.

I also have rigged up a side line running down the left of the hammock to hang small bags from this may be another option but again boots tend to droop too low

Would like your thoughts / ideas and advice Ladies and Gents...

    In advance, Many thanks

    Keith from over the pond....

I have the TW hammock similar to the Frontline. I have tied the laces together then draped them over the foot end above the gather.

I like to have them right on the ground ready for me to step into for the early morning nature call. Never had an issue with wet weather, just cover them w/pack cover or rain gear if it's going to be real nasty.

If they are super nasty they live under me in a plastic trash bag. If they are dry, they live over my ridgeline inside.

If they are the only shoes I brought, they go beside the hammock of course.

If they are wet and its not raining, I look for a nearby stump hole and press my trekking poles into it and then put the shoes over the handles for maximum wind exposure.

If its raining, they just go under the tarp somewhere. I've never hiked anywhere I had to be concerned about this in terms of critters getting inside. As a kid when I left shoes on the porch, toads would hide inside. I always wondered how they knew there was a hole on the top of the shoe to go into. The edge is higher than they can see. Hmm

I took my first trip with my hammock this weekend, it rained most of the time. I kept my boots under my hammock upside down with a couple of sticks to hold them above the ground.

On the ground right where my feet were when I sat down in the hammock. Gaiters folded over to keep any creepy crawlies out (read: slugs...yeach)

I like that idea, if for some reason I can not use the pockets on my hammock.

I have always worried about a marmot, deer, porcupine, etc. dragging one of both off to chew on leather for salt. They hang over my suspension either at the foot end or head end. Depending on which end I need to raise or lower at the time. Ten or fifteen miles out and no boots…you would be screwed!
