    Prusik Knot question

Question for you Knot Gurus. Will a Prusik knot made out of Tech line hold ok on a Zing-It line. I don't have any Zing-It yet, but its on the way. Is the Zing-It too slippery for a prusik not to hold. What I am thinking about is using the Zing-it for a tarp ridge line and the prusiks holding the tarp onto the line.

It should work. Zing It can be a bit slippery when new and may take an extra wrap or two on the prusik. Things improve as the line gets a little use.

If it gives you problems, try a Klemheist knot instead of the Prusik.

Prussiks do no like to hold on lines of similar diameter. If they are, double up the line that the prussik is attaching to. The prussik needs the larger diameter in order to be able to hold.

I've had success with a Zing It prusik on a Zing It CRL. You just need to do an extra loop or two to make it work and, as mentioned above, with use it holds a bit better.

But the previous post is also correct in that the prusik doesn work better using a smaller diameter loop on a larger diameter line.

Great thing about a Prusik is you get to choose the number of loops. The Prusik line is generally smaller diameter than the static line, but depending on loads and materials, you choose the number of loops.

I tie Prussics all the time on line that is the same diameter. True it works best if the lines are different sizes but not a hard set thing. A Prussics that is looped around the standing line multiple times will grab at some point. The sconce of friction. The more rope you put in contact the more friction the better it will hold. In small ropes like the 1.75mm lash-it 4 wraps around to form the Prussic will get the job done. Do it every day on the lines we sell.

Now the offset of it all is that the more loops in the Prussic to get enough friction the harder they become to adjust as there is more line to work loose after the knot has grabbed. The point of smaller line for the Prussic on the larger standing line (like would be the traditional set up for climbing) is to keep it easy to adjust and move the Prussic with the least effort.

As said above, works best when the loop is of a smaller diameter than the rope it's holding on to.

I use a klemheist when the pull is only going to be in one direction, as it works with fewer wraps. . .

You could also try a Bachmann knot with a small carabiner. Very easy to tie and even easier to adjust.

    Prusik Knot question

I use Speer No Tangle (spectra) for prussics on Zingit. The Spectra has an abrasive sheath that bites much better than Zingit on Zingit.

It's the outer polyester sheath that is grabbing. The spectra on the no tangle is the inner core only. And spectra is the same material as the zing it is made from.
