I am sure a lot of you have been to the GSM and I am heading there in a couple weeks. Are there any issues with hanging in the campgrounds. Thinking of Elkmont as it will be on my way through the park.
Thanks

No problems at all, we eventually find properly spaced trees without nearby window makers within the boundary of the reserved campsite in compliance with the seven check off box requirements. You can hang your hammock in less time than it takes to make the reservation.

U shouldn't have a problem, at all.
Only problem I see is...I AINT GOIN!! Have fun. Elkmont is great.
"As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement. For the Lord your God moves about in your camp..." Deuteronomy 23: 13,14
Yep, I believe the only rules they have about hammocks are ones that stress protection of the tree.
There are Several areas in the park that were/are closed from storm damage several weeks ago..not sure if Elkmont is on the list..lots of trees down/damaged.
No problems in the shelters either

On the AT it said you have to stay in the shelter, but it didn't say you had to sleep on the floor.
I actually read somewhere that you can't hang a hammock on the shelter itself. I cant remember the source, possible when i searched hammock in the park and that was a rule i saw. But dont quote me on that.
Have you made a reservation yet? I was there in march and there weren't any reservations available in elkmont for, as they put it, a looooong time. Never did get a site last trip. Anyone have some good advice on getting reservations? Or advice for convincing the wife to head into the back country?
