    Hammock length

I have a question regarding the length of a hammock. I'm about to make my first diy gathered end hammock (for my daughter) and would like to know what length would be good for her. She is about 5'3" maybe 100 lbs.

Make her a 10' with a pair of Knotty Mods to gather in the excess material and let it out as she grows.

    +1 on what Rolloff said.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

I'd make it an 11-footer - why skimp on a foot of fabric?

I didn't know if an 11 footer would be to big for her right now. She's only 12 so that's why I like the idea of leaving excess material gathered and just let it out as needed.

I'm making a 2nd hammock for my oldest grandson it's going to be a 9 to 9 1/2footer. For years hammocks were 9 ft for adults. I would use the extra fabric saved for stuff sacks, ridge line organizer etc. They seem to wear out gear before they outgrow it. Enjoy the wonderful time whichever way you go

I'm 5'6" and 160#. I'm pretty sure I could get away with a 10'. I'd be lost w/o my Knotty Mods, in my 11' WW. I can almost lay out like in a Mayan, which isn't such a bad thing.

Unless someone over at BIAS talks me out of it, or I come to my senses, pretty sure a 10' WWM is in my future, just to see if I can get a few more ounces offa my back.

She's probably going to be growing like a weed at some point and SS might just be right about scrimping on a foot of fabric.

I'd stick with a 10 ft hammock for her. Maybe even cut it down to 9 ft. I don't think skimping on fabric is an issue here. If you're only 5' 6" tall, how likely is she going to grow taller than that? Of course, I don't know how tall her mother is. But you also don't want her to have to carry a large, heavy hammock she might not ever grow into, especially if she's only 12 years old.

While I'm flattered by the Knotty Mod suggestions, personally I'd recommend a 10' hammock, at most, for her. Of course no matter what the length, that stretch side mod is helpful.
