10 ft vs 11 ft hammock

Is there a good rule of thumb on determining the size one needs on this?

I'm 6'0". I don't care to get more than I need but I don't want to be right at the edge of the recommendation either. I've found being right at the edge or at the maximum recommended heights means I really should get a larger size.

Hence why I'm carefully researching my replacement for my HH Expedition.

    thank you.

    11' foot.

I'm 5'6" and consider myself right on the cusp. Going to try a 10' BIAS WWM at some point, when i finally go completely gram crazy, but my 11' WW lays very well indeed.

I like 10' or 11' gathered end but I like 11' with bugnet (the 10' was comfortable but felt confining)

6'1" pretty happy with my Yukon Outfitter double and very happy with my Trek Lite double. Wally $25 special is too short and narrow.

Re: 10 ft vs 11 ft hammock

10' is usually enough for most people. Even 9' is plenty for alot of people. I'm 6'1" and 10' is fine for me.
Remember, width is pretty important too.

I'm 5'9" and 10' is fine, but 11' is so nice..... GCY24 is right though, it's all personal preference. Good luck to you. You may want to see if you can try someones 10' and 11' to see what you prefer. Attending a local hang can be of some help.

I'm 6ft and my 10ft was fine but my 11ft TBird is really nice. Like EVERYTHING on this forum it is just preference. If you can try them both.

Consider that the material cost difference is minor. 11 foot is the current fad. Yes, fad.

Who thinks that makers didn't try longer, and find there was no benefit they could discern at the time. Warbonnetguy spent all that time and R&D to come up with his highly-tailored 10ft WBBB, a large hammock for its time, but somehow overlooked the benefits of greater length. Right.

Consider that with a longer hammock you will need a longer, heavier, sail / tarp, and greater minimum distances between trees. But, you'll save all that money on 6" shorter suspension lines.

But, comfort being defined as personal, there were also billions of person years of relative misery of Americans sleeping in single beds, not queen and king size ones, too.

Ending positively, without disbelief, I'd suggest you consider a heavier, stiffer fabric than some at HF think is adequate because it is lighter and deemed safe for the load. Or, even a narrower hammock, such as Tree-to-Tree Trail Gear makes.

(I use the shorter and narrower hammocks in my description, but being shorter than you, I am further disqualified from recommending even a 9ft Clark, which most folks find cavernous.....as in huge....so great is the illusion of size accomplished with hoops (and tie-outs, too.)

I have to agree and disagree with Demostix. I disagree with 11' being a fad. I think it's just another option that suits some people and will always be around. Afterall they aren't popular because of some cool factor that could cease to be cool. They are popular because a decent number of people find them superiorly comfortable compared to shorter hammocks, myself included.

I agree with him on the downsides though. And the reasons he listed are why I prefer my 10' hammocks. At my height I am perfectly comfortable in a 10'. Therefore the additional comfort is not worth the downsides to me.
