I just scanned this thread and did it get off track Why is it that the only hammock mentioned is the Hennessy? Is everyone saying there isn't a better beginner hammock than a Hennessy There has got to be other good hammocks for beginners.
"Every day above ground is a good day"
some folks, including myself, prefer the top entry (or speer type) hammock for several reasons... like the open feel & view, & being able to reach gear that's near by but not inside the hammock.
also i like to heat water from the comfort of my hammock & even eat there too<g>. ...tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making
Beginner Hammock = Travel hammock
Mainly because it is cheap, so the cost risk of starting with it is low.
“Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it." -Terry Pratchett
Two words: Structural Ridgeline.
The structural ridgeline makes pitching easy and consistent. Since Hennessy has the patent. . .
It took me a year to figure out that I was hanging my DIY hammock too tight. Regular hammocks pitch differently, and it takes time to figure out what will work best for you. I look at it like this: Hennessy's are like Macs, DIY hammocks are like Linux. Other commercial hammocks fall somewhere between.
