Re: TN>Land Between the Lakes--planning stages

I'm definitely interested and will try to make it. I'd need to be back in Nashville by Sunday night. Maybe I could come for a night and just paddle back out solo the next day. Or I could miss a couple days of classes and stay for the whole trip

Edit: Hmm.. I only have a 10' recreational kayak.

Man wish could make this hang sounds like so much fun! (wait for it).... BUT I would have to jump threw so many hoops like a pregnant wife, working for UPS(it starts getting busy that time of year) and biggest thing I don't have any paddling exp/equip and no $$$ to get any.

I'll be eying this thread. If I end up being able to make it, you'll know soon. 8 days is a lot of time off.

FIMB, on the length of the trip.
    1. it depends on where you live....for me its basically a day's drive (6 hours)..could paddle some that day but permits and darkness, etc.
    2. the actual paddle distance is not that far by touring standards, we just may have people new to paddle
camping and not used to 10 mile days paddling and we of course won't paddle off and
leave anybody. I really think we can easily paddle around in 4 easy days but for a lot
of folks (me included) that is weather dependent.
    3. as an enticement, if you watched the MiddleProngWeekend vid I plan on having 3 of
those baking set ups and willing of course to trade muffins for whatever.

Got a PM concerning the wildlife refuge closure while we'll be paddling. True it is there and closed, yet the barges continue on....and so will we. First day after shuttling and getting permits we'll paddle from the Hwy 69 Bridge/Devils Elbow put-in up to the refuge and camp this side of it...next day we'll brave the barges (paddle between them [def. not between them on the water] and the refuge) and paddle around it.
I can never tell mileage on the map I've got but it looks like 6-7 miles to 'just this side' of the refuge and maybe 4-5 miles of paddling where we'll have to swing wide.
If anybody has better mileage guestimates post them up!
This means second day we should be going around the horn or getting close to it

There are not many barges to worry about and lots of lake in which to paddle. Shouldn't even be close to a barge. No worries.

There is a Hwy 69 that crosses the lakes, but it is way north of Elbow bay and Devils elbow.

But would it be Hwy 68 that you're talking about?
