Leave final sale prices up on closed threads.

I know it is not a huge deal but I find it very useful when looking to unload some gear. When I can search the for sale area and find a price that someone sold similar items I know better where to start on price. Similarly before I buy something I do the same thing looking to find if I am being fleeced.

Not sure what to do about it but I would sure like it if we could leave the prices up when something gets sold.

That'd be helpful for all the reasons you mentioned.

That is generally the seller doing an edit on his/her original post. The only edits the Mods do is marking the title with "SOLD" and closing the thread so that additional posts can't be made. Well, other than zapping all the noise posts about "somebody is going to get a great deal", or "if I didn't just buy X, I would buy this".

Keep in mind that this stuff becomes historical pretty quick. A fair price today, may not be a fair price 6 months from now. If you plan to use postings as a purchasing guide, be very sure you're looking at the date of the original post.

I still like the idea of moving SOLD posts to a SOLD forum to clear up clutter in the For Sale forum.

Rather than mark something SOLD and close the thread, close the thread and move it.

It would be nice but I can't even imagine the amount of work it would take to do that. it would be unreasonable to put that kind of work on the mods.

If they are already marking them SOLD and closing the thread, would it be anymore work to move it to another section? Mods? I have no idea how all that works.

Not all threads get marked sold. Some get buried fast enough that it is not needed.

I'm very familiar with vBulletin (which is the software that powers HammockForums) having used it for another forum that I recently owned.

Creating a new forum is just a few clicks. Existing SOLD items wouldn't need to be moved, as eventually time would just weed them out to the very bottom of the forum to be forgotten forever.

"But Gresh," you say, "doesn't the fact that the old SOLD posts get shoved to the bottom of the forum suggest that you don't really NEED a new forum?"

Perhaps, says I. Perhaps. However, I'm a stickler for organization. Furthermore, searching the For Sale forum would only turn up items for sale. It's tedious searching for something in particular and having billions upon millions of SOLD threads show up. You're (presumably) not searching for something that's been sold, but rather searching for something that's currently for sale.

"Perhaps" you should be more concerned that you've hijacked the OP's topic, rather than bloviating about how horrible it is to have to search for something you want to find.

The Marketplace subforums are already one of the biggest sources of work and attention for the Mods. Spending even more time re-organizing them into sub-subs wouldn't improve the hammock-related discussions (that's what we really care about here), so we're gonna stay with what's not broken.

To the OP - hopefully more of the members will read this thread and consider leaving their sale prices in place and un-edited. This is a case by case issue though.
