    Detachable Stand?

Ok I have now ordered my Hammock and tarp, I plan to use them out on the trail between trees, however I would also like to use it in my back garden, unfortunately there aren't really any trees in it, at least none that are either strong enough or close enough together to hang a hammock.

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a good stand? Is there any out there that you can take apart to prevent it taking up too much room when it's inside the house?

    Thanks,

    Ian

I need to get one of the stands Narwhalin linked to built, but never enough time.
But, I am a huge fan of the simplicity of Risk's $25 Hammock Stand. It costs more than $25 these days, but talk about easy and effective. I used a modified version of one as my permanent stand at home for about a year. Nightly use and it held up just fine!

There is a stand at Bed Bath and Beyond that is 15' long.
It requires no tools to assemble and comes apart into five pieces.
Three of those are just 6' long 2" poles. The other two are the cross legs.
It costs $99 and takes down really quick.
15' is HUGE. I used this one for my son's room and it was too large so I cut the middle beam in half to shave off 3 feet......
Another option is the Vario but it's more expensive.
It does use bolts but you can swap those out for wingnuts.
It's really nice because it has lots of possible adjustments.

You freakin' rock! I have a 20% off coupon and a leftover gift cert from BBB. Just called my local shop and they have some.

    Thanks for the heads-up!

ETA - My wife stopped by BB&B this afternoon and picked up the 15' hammock stand. It's VERY nice. No tools needed, goes together in a few seconds, feels rock solid, an looks nice. It's currently in my office with my Blackbird hanging on it. It's a keeper!

Although this stays outside, it can be broken down fairly easily. I did have to make extensions for the ends to get my tarp up high enough. It is from an old Hatteras yard hammock.

Anybody tried making one of these out of electrical conduit?

A while back, I met a fellow hanger at a Scout campout. Since he knew we'd be camping in a field, he brought along galvanized fenceposts and a...pile driver of sorts. He drove a few in for the boys in his Troop, then hung the hammocks right on the fencepost tops. Afterwards, he wiggled the posts a bit and they lifted right out. (Then he filled in the holes.)

I thought that was a pretty clever method, but it wouldn't work all the time. And its not a setup I'd go hiking with.

Well mine ended up coming in 2 nights ago. It weighs about 20 lbs but is definitely packable enough for car camping (has 8 peices). Pretty sturdy stand too and it goes into place using the click button things. Been sleeping in my apartment finally the past 2 nights and am loving it. It's somewhat short but I think it will fit most hammocks up to a 101" ridgeline.....depending on how far out your ring buckles (if applicable) come out from your gathered ends. Give me a sec and I'll upload some pics to give you an idea of how much space it takes up.
