    Dina glide vs amsteel whoopsies?

Well the title pretty much sums is up! I havw been using 7/64ths amsteel for my whoopsies but a lot of people use Dina glide, so anyone who had has experience with both and tell me pros and cons? Thanks!!

Dynaglide is about 1/2 the weight and bulk but is not quite as strong. To have a resonable level of safety margin with dyna you should be under 225 pounds while with 7/64 Amstel you ok up to around 400.

With either one, if you make them correctly, you have a whoopie sling.

I suppose if you make your buries too short, you might have a whoopsie sling......not recommended of course.

Yeah DG whoppies are lighter and less bulky and all that. My problem with them are with adjustability. Once you hang the hammock, quilts and whatever gear the DG whoppies are a PITA to adjust. Sticky is the word that comes to mind. I still use them on a few of my hammocks but I prefer amsteel if I'm not counting grams.

Sidewinder, the stickyness your experiencing with Dynaglide is the polyurethane coating on the line that is meant to reduce friction in dynaglides true use. It does wear off/break in with use. The variable is how much use it takes to wear the polyurethane down over the full range of a sling.

The main con that I see is your starting strength with the dynaglide at 1000#. Every system that I've seen has a larks head (cow hitch) or tight bend somewhere in the system. A larks head takes you down to 60% of your starting strength ~600# (reference table 4 p17 here) So, with a 3:1 safety factor your left with a working load of 200# and at 5:1 120#. Since I don't make that sub 200# mark it's not for me, although I've considered it.

Oh wow I didn't know it was about half the weight. And they would work the same as amsteel whoopsies? So at 150lbs I would be fine to get it? And if so what I guess thickness do I use?

It's basically the same material and construction as Amsteel, just a different manufacturer. You have to decide for yourself if you want to use it, but if I was your size I probably would. I'm pretty sure the stuff is about 2mm, but you'll have to look that up and I think they only have one size.

Half the weight perhaps, but half of very, very little. I like dynaglide, and I have seen some big people hang on it. The utility of reducing the weight of amsteel from my perspective is minimal compared to the additional assuredness of non-failure.
