Seam Sealer - Kenyon 3

I have tried using Kenyon Seam Sealer 3 twice over the last year with less than good results.

The first time I used it was on sil-nylon. It did not work and I found out it was not meant for sil-nylon but should be used on nylon with a polyurethane coating. The problem was the product never seemed to fully cure. it would milk up during rain and start to leak.

Again, I tried the product, but this time on my nylon polyurethane Equinox Kitchen tarp. Same freaking problem, it will milk up and the seams start leaking. Anyone else have this problem. Is there a solution or have I just ruined my tarp.

I have read where some have 'scrubbed' the seam sealer off. This appears to potentially be more damaging process to the fabric. Does anyone have experience with removing this seam sealer?

Recommendations to correct, fix and avoid in the future???

Pure speculation but I would try something like Murphy's Oil Soap or Dawn Dish Soap to try to loosen up the sealant so it can be removed. If that didn't work I'd try a mild solvent like vinegar (diluted) or perhaps Hydrogen Peroxide (applied carefully). Maybe even some alcohol if all else failed.

Krud Kutter works on everything. I would recommend using it. I get mine at the local home depot.

It usually stays rubbery. You may be able to just rub it off with your fingers without too much effort. I have used it on poly tarps and sealing tents. I have never seen it go milky from rain when it has set. If you can get it off and want to try something else, go get a product called seam grip. It will stick much better. You will have to throw some talc on it to get rid of the stickiness.

I would e-mail Kenyon and get their response. From my experience with them, they helped me alot when I was rehabbing my son's boy scout troop tents. Gave me pretty good advice.

A long time ago, when I was a boy scout, we use to use rubber cement as a seam sealer. I wonder if that will work on todays fabrics that is not silnylon.
